Five Ways to Celebrate Support Your Local Chamber of Commerce Day

ACCE News / October 1, 2021

Support Your Local Chamber of Commerce Day is observed on the third Wednesday of October each year. While most days, chamber professionals are focused on their member businesses and communities, on October 20, 2021, it’s okay (and encouraged!) to look inward and share your chamber’s story. Here are a few ideas on how to celebrate.

Tell people about it!

While not quite as popular as Valentine’s Day or New Year’s Eve (yet!), Support Your Local Chamber of Commerce Day should certainly be observed by your chamber. ACCE created an asset library with social media graphics and even a quick video (check it out above). You can access that library here. Make sure to include #ChamberStrong on all your posts. If you need help with the asset library, see our frequently asked questions.

Get your members involved.

Take some time before the big day to create graphics for your members so they can share their support for your chamber. It could be a simple graphic that says, “I support my local chamber,” with your logo. You can distribute those graphics in a newsletter or e-blast and ask your members to share them on social media on October 20. Or simply post a graphic on the day of and ask for shares! Get testimonials from members explaining why they support your chamber.

Every chamber has its cheerleaders—those businesses that love your chamber, find lots of value in membership and have great stories to relay about how you’ve helped them. Call upon those super fans for a quick testimonial. It can be by email, a phone call or even on video. Ask why their business is a chamber member and if they have any great chamber stories to share. You’ll be amazed by the connections you’ve created. Share those testimonials on October 20. If you collect a lot, you could even post a testimonial a day leading up to that Wednesday!

Write a blog post about your chamber’s history and accomplishments.

Most chambers are involved in so much more than the public realizes. It’s okay to take some time to brag about all your chamber does and tell the story of its history. Maybe your chamber supported a work program during the Great Depression or helped pass important bond issues to build a local library. Chambers became information clearinghouses during the pandemic, and many are involved in community issues like talent development, childcare, diversity and equity and more. Let everyone see the impact the chamber has had on your community!

Introduce your staff in a blog and on social media.

Chamber professionals are the engine behind the organization. Put a name to a face, especially if you have new staff that your members may not have had a chance to meet yet. Take a fun picture, write up an interesting fact and show off the people who make your chamber awesome.

ACCE is here to provide tools, resources, information and important connections to chambers of commerce professionals. We want to see your chamber develop programs, motivate members, deepen community involvement and, along the way, make your community a more competitive place to do business. Learn how you and your team can be more effective, and your members and community can benefit through a membership with ACCE.
