More on SC Governor's Tax Proposal
Yesterday I shareda Dec 9th Tax Policy Blog recap of South Carolina Governor Mark Sanford's proposal to overhaul the state's tax structure. The Tax Policy Blog said the proposed reform program would "vastly improve the state's business tax climate."
Economic development groups in the state are not so sure.
According to The Greenville News, The South Carolina Economic Developers’ Association "balked" at the governor's proposal. The organization stated that by eliminating tax incentives the proposal would inhibit their ability to attract new employers to the state and "completely eliminate the very economic development tools that help make South Carolina competitive."
Sanford argues that current economic development incentives, "favor new and big businesses over longtime and small ones." He added, "What if you just treated every business the same?"
