Chairman's Message Chad Hamman

I write this message as the Republican National Convention (RNC) wraps up here in Cleveland and the trucks begin to roll out of town. I'm sort of riding a "high," although it could be sleep deprivation, as I also try to get some of my day-to-day work done here at the chamber. Regardless of political affiliation, when I think about all the legwork, fundraising and behind-the-scenes planning it took to pull off such a big event for our city, I'm simply amazed. Not to mention, the amount of coordination it took to line up 8,000 local volunteers and 5,000 police officers from 21 different states! The Host Committee may have possibly been over-prepared, if there is such a thing.

The RNC has been on my mind lately because it has directly affected our sales this month. No matter how much you plan, inevitably in sales, there will be slow months. It's during those slow months that you find out how deep is your prospect pipeline. In other words, you can never have too many prospects. I don't think we as sales people would be yelled at if we sold too much. It's these tougher months that put our sales plans to the test. These are the months that prove you can never be "over-prepared."

This is my last message to the Membership Development Division. It has been an absolute pleasure getting to know so many of you during my time in this role! Next month, Ruth Littlefield, vice president of membership development and relations at the Tulsa Regional Chamber, will be taking over as the chair of the MDD. Not only does she bring great experience to the role, but she also has a fantastic perspective on this profession and the things that we as peers can do to help each other out. You might say that we are "over-prepared" with our next leader of the MDD. I look forward to seeing many of you soon at ACCE's annual convention!

Lifetime Achievement Awards

Sales Contest Winners . . . and on to next year!

Thank you to all who participated in our 2015-16 Circle of Champions Sales Contest, and congratulations to our winners. A list of winners can be found here and on our Sales Contest page.

The 2016-17 sales contest year has begun! Here are a few reminders about the contest:

  • For this year's contest, you will need to submit a short Sales Contest Entrance Form along with your first quarterly entry for the contest year. You can find that form here and on our sales contest page.
  • Remember that you must be a member of the Circle of Champions to participate in the Sales Contest. If you haven't joined yet, you can do so by submitting the Sales Contest Entrance Form (just check the box indicating that you'd like to join), and we'll get you signed up. If you've already joined the Circle, you are good to go! No need to re-join each year.
  • Sales contest deadlines are below:
    Q1 (June 1–August 31): Sept. 8, 2016
    Q2 (September 1–November 30): Dec. 7, 2016
    Q3 (December 1–February 28): March 7, 2017
    Q4 (March 1–May 31): June 2, 2017

2016 Events Training Conference

ACCE's second Events Training Conference will be held October 13–14 at Greater Louisville Inc. The conference is designed for chamber staff responsible for planning and running distinctive and memorable chamber events. Check out this page for more information about the conference, to register, and to book your hotel room. Early Bird registration rates and discounted hotel rates end on September 14. Due to limited space, we will cap the registration for this conference at 60 participants.
