Chairman's Message Chad Hamman

Montréal, Part Deux: If you went to the ACCE Convention in August, I'm sure you were impressed with everything that Montréal had to offer: fabulous restaurants, exciting night life, old-world charm, historic sites and a vibrant arts scene. I would also note that there was a first-rate chamber convention that took place! It was truly one of the best ACCE Conventions that I can recall. So good in fact, that when I was comparing notes with several peers, we realized that we were all raving about different breakout sessions, not just the same two or three. Merveilleux ACCE!

Now this is where your ACCE membership really pays off. Whether or not you attended the ACCE Convention, you can visit the Post Convention Resources page to see handouts from sessions you missed. You'll receive an e-mail from ACCE when session recordings will be available through ACCE University Online.

We keep hearing from many of you that you would like to participate in small group conference calls with peers from similar sized chambers in different markets, so you can do more peer-to-peer learning. We are happy to make that happen! All you have to do is send me an email to chamman@cose.org. Include your contact info, job title and chamber size. We have already started forming new groups, so it is the perfect time to sign up.

Lastly, this is YOUR organization and we are constantly working to generate content that is timely and valuable to you! If you have any burning issues or questions that you'd like us to address through upcoming conference calls or webinars, please send me an email.

Circle of Champions & Membership Development Roundtable Call: Using Data to Impact Membership

Databases and research tools put a lot of data at our fingertips, but what can you do with the data once you have it? In our next roundtable call, Thursday, Oct. 22, 1-1:45 p.m. ET, we'll discuss how data can be used to impact membership sales and retention, member engagement, and the lifetime value of a member.

The call will be moderated by MDD Advisory Board Member Kelle Marsalis, managing director, member services, of the Dallas Regional Chamber, along with Jennifer Schmiel, CCE, senior vice president of member services, and Duane Dankesreiter, senior vice president of business information and research. After a short presentation, there will be questions, sharing of ideas and experiences, and discussion. No pre-registration required. Chamber Events Training Conference:CCE
Oct. 29-30, 2015

Calling all chamber professionals who plan and manage distinctive and memorable chamber events! By popular request, ACCE is pleased to present its first chamber events-focused conference, Oct. 29-30 in New Orleans. The content will feature sessions on revenue generation, marketing, financial performance assessments for events, networking, and more. The deadline for discounted Early Bird registration is coming up on Wed., Oct. 7. Registration will continue until the conference. ACCE has reserved a block of rooms at the conference hotel (Hilton New Orleans/St. Charles Avenue). The discounted rate for the block also ends Oct. 7 or whenever the block is sold out. Please check the ACCE website events page for a complete details and to register. See you in New Orleans!


ACCE Convention Session Information

It was great to see so many membership professionals at our annual convention in Montréal. Handouts from many convention sessions have been posted on the ACCE website. We are preparing the recordings for convention workshops and will have them available for purchase through ACCE University Online as soon as they are ready. Check the ACCE University Online page for these sessions, where you'll also find recorded webinars and eCourses on membership and other topics.


Join the Circle of Champions!

It was exciting and inspiring to see the Circle of Champions award winners receive their Sales Contest and Lifetime Achievement Awards at the 2015 convention awards ceremony. Congratulations again to all the winners! It's time now to gear up for a new Circle of Champions year. If you have not joined the Circle or haven't signed up your sales staff, now is the time to do it! Dee Prior Nesti, who won the awards this year for total new sales and total dollar value of new sales for the under $200,000 dues income category, has this to say about the motivational value of the contest:

Dee Prior Nesti "It has been tremendously rewarding to participate in the ACCE National Sales contest. As we all know it isn't easy to secure chamber memberships. To be recognized nationally is a great honor. My board enthusiastically asks where we are as far as placement throughout the year, and it is with great satisfaction that I have been able to share our successes. We also submit a regional press release, and the support from our community has been fantastic! I am grateful to ACCE for this opportunity to highlight our chamber, and although I have been promoted to Executive Director, we will continue to participate with our current Business Development Executive. We look forward to 2016!"

Sales Contest: 1st Quarter Results and Deadlines

Thanks to everyone who submitted their 1st quarter entries for the 2015-16 Sales Contest. Current standings are posted on the ACCE website Sales Contest page. Great start to the year, everyone, and keep up the good work! Our 2nd quarter deadline is Dec. 7. Submit your 2nd quarter entries using this on-line form. The remaining schedule for 2015-16 is:

  • Second quarter (Sept. 1- Nov. 30) - Dec. 7, 2015
  • Third quarter (Dec. 1- Feb. 28) - March 7, 2016
  • Fourth quarter (March 1- May 31) - June 6, 2016


Formation of MDD Peer Groups

We are working to create small membership development professional peer groups, of five or six people each, to talk and share regularly about issues of interest. These discussions would not be facilitated by an ACCE staff member or MDD Board member, but would take place, likely by phone, on a schedule and on topics of mutual interest to each group. If you are interested in joining a group please contact MDD Chair Chad Hamman. If you are already a member of this type of group, we would be grateful for your input on how best to initiate and support this program. Finally, if you have already contacted us about a peer group, thank you! As noted above, we are beginning to form the groups now – let us know if you want to join!
