AWB 'Advocate of the Year' award presented to local chambers of commerce - Association of Washington Business

The state's largest business organization honored three local chambers of commerce with the first-ever Association of Washington Business (AWB) Advocate of the Year award for their efforts in the Legislature as part of the AWB - Local Chamber Grassroots Alliance partnership. The award recipients are: the Tri-City Regional Chamber of Commerce; the Greater Vancouver Chamber of Commerce; and the Tacoma-Pierce County Chamber. MADE Magazine, CoY 2016 Synopsis 1 - Catawba County Chamber of Commerce

Catawba County Chamber of Commerce, Category 1 Winner, 2016 Chamber of the Year, Program/Initiative Summary for Synopsis #1 is: "The Problem: We are the 8th largest MSA for manufacturing jobs in the United States. "Making things" is in our blood. The narrow talent pool has left our local employers with a workforce crisis. There are currently 3,120 available jobs today going unfilled. This is the most critical issue facing Catawba County today. Our Solution: We published and are distributing 25,000 copies of our new MADE Magazine within our three school systems, private schools, local community college and university, and other agencies that feature advertorials of local employers and their hardest to fill career opportunities."

Catawba County Chamber of Commerce, Category 1 Winner, 2016 Chamber of the Year, Program/Initiative Summary for Synopsis #2 is: "Before 2014, Catawba County had not had an economic development strategic plan since 2004. The County Manager challenged the Chamber to lead a business-driven effort to do just that! That's when Innovate Catawba was born. This plan, led and managed by our organization and facilitated by the Southern Growth Policies Board in Raleigh, NC, was a result of the creation of a successful collaborative partnership between education, government, and business. Over the past two years, we have engaged over 400 volunteers in the following six areas, resulting in many measurable iconic successes: Inspiring Communities, Reinventing Spaces, Building for Jobs, Workforce Connectivities, Small Business and Entrepreneurship and Leadership."
