Hurricane Harvey struck the Texas coast on August 25. The hurricane along, with the subsequent tropical storm, caused severe damage from wind and flooding to a significant portion of the southeastern part of the state. Nearly 60 Texas counties were impacted, which includes hundreds of cities/communities and chambers of commerce. The heartbeats of these local economies are the businesses that serve them and their chambers of commerce, which work on their behalf each day.
In response to this disaster, which has been called by many experts a “thousand-year event,” Texas chambers and the business community will lock arms to come to the aid of our friends and neighbors, with the goal of assisting them in restoring what has been lost. The “Adopt A Chamber/Community” is an initiative being led by a partnership of the Texas Chamber of Commerce Executives (TCCE), the state association of chamber professionals, and the Texas Association of Business (TAB), the state chamber of commerce. The initiative is designed to help chambers and their communities get back to business long-term and stronger than ever.
Through the initiative, we will identify the needs of chambers and their communities, collect funds and engage community partners and local businesses to assist in meeting many of the needs expressed by our “adopted” chambers/communities in the impacted areas.
Here is how you can help:
Adopt A Chamber/Community
In the “Adopt a Chamber/Community” program, your chamber will serve as the adopting chamber and will be paired with a chamber in need of assistance. Your goal will be to come alongside the chamber and assist it for a longer term through giving and coordination of resources.
Consider doing one or more of the following:
To begin, contact:
RaDonna Hessel, CEO, Grapevine Chamber/TCCE Chair
TCCE/TAB are currently cataloguing the needs of chambers and businesses in the impacted areas to have a more comprehensive view of needs and to assist in proper resource allocation. This activity will continue as needs will change/develop over time.
Thank you for your consideration and, in advance, for your participation. Together, we will serve our chamber colleagues and their communities and help propel them on their paths to success. We are CHAMBER STRONG! And, as a community and extended family, we will take care of each other.
