ACCE's Education Attainment Division launched a competitive awards program in 2014 to recognize chambers of commerce that have demonstrated momentum in setting education attainment agendas and established innovative postsecondary attainment goals and strategies. The program included a one-time $40,000 stimulus award to accelerate selected chambers' existing efforts to grow the number of individuals in their communities with postsecondary degrees and other high quality credentials. This effort aimed to expand and deepen their work as well as share successes to build replicable and scalable practices among ACCE's membership. In addition to flexible funding, winning chambers received technical and planning assistance and access to a powerful network of national thought-leaders. The Fellowship for Education & Talent Development annually selects 20 chamber of commerce executives and senior staff to participate in a nine-month professional development program designed to assist them in improving education and talent development outcomes in their communities.
Through interaction with chamber peers, ACCE staff and national experts, participants expand their professional network and build a support system to guide their education and talent development work, now and into the future. The fellowship provides a deep dive into the cutting edge theories, approaches and best practices in the talent development space through a combination of in-person meetings, expert consultations and peer engagement. Throughout the program, fellows develop and execute a plan for specific education and talent development objectives in the form of a regional action project (RAP).
