ACCE's Immediate Past Chairman Tim Sheehy, CCE, named Chip Cherry, CCE, president and CEO of the Huntsville/Madison County, Ala., Chamber of Commerce and current ACCE board member, as the recipient of the 2012 Chairman’s Award, which is given annually to an individual or group that has made a significant contribution to the betterment of the chamber profession. Sheehy presented the Award Aug. 3 during ACCE's annual convention in Louisville, Ky.
In his presentation, Sheehy remarked on Cherry’s commitment to the association. “In a period in which he personally changed jobs, moving up to lead a much bigger chamber in a much bigger town, his commitment to this organization didn’t lag in the least – in fact he did more for ACCE than ever,” said Sheehy.
In November 2011, Cherry was named president and CEO of the Huntsville/Madison County Chamber after serving 10 years as president/CEO of the Greater Macon, Ga., Chamber of Commerce/Economic Development Commission. He had previously served as an ACCE board member 12 years ago, but returned to the board last August. In what was personally a very hectic past nine months for Cherry, he still found time to serve ACCE.
“This year, while packing up to move two dogs, assorted felines and a very understanding spouse, he still found time to travel to ACCE for awards judging. He also wrote a cover story for Chamber Executive Magazine and agreed to chair a task force on ACCE’s future business model,” said Sheehy.
