As the Republican and Democratic national conventions convened to nominate their respective candidates for president, ACCE President Mick Fleming traveled to both of the convention host cities to participate in satellite convention events hosted by Lumina Foundation. The panel discussion, “The College Advantage,” – in which Fleming served as a panelist, took place in Tampa, FL., and Charlotte, N.C., and examined challenges and opportunities facing America’s higher education system. Participants in the discussion addressed what needs to be done to better prepare the country for success in the knowledge economy.
“Business leaders recognize that higher education attainment is one of the top predictors of future competitiveness,” said Fleming. “That’s why chambers of commerce across the country are emerging as leaders in the fight for better education outcomes.”
Fleming participated alongside Lumina Foundation President Jamie Merisotis; Georgetown University Center on Education and the Workforce Director Anthony Carnevale; Miami Dade College President Eduardo Padron; Indiana Higher Education Commissioner Teresa Lubbers, and Young Invincibles Executive Director Aaron Smith.
