Betty Nokes, president and CEO of the Bellevue (WA) Chamber of Commerce, has been named Board Chair of the American Chamber of Commerce Executives (ACCE) for 2013-14. Nokes officially began her year-long tenure at the ACCE Annual Convention on July 24 in Oklahoma City. She succeeds Roy Williams, CCE, president and CEO of the Greater Oklahoma City Chamber.
"With more than 25 years of non-profit management experience, Betty has worked to apply cutting-edge business trends to the Bellevue Chamber," said ACCE President Mick Fleming. "Our trip to Bellevue for a board meeting in April reinforced my respect for her work. We hope to tap Betty’s forward thinking to benefit ACCE and her peers during her tenure as chair."
"It is my privilege and honor to serve as Chairman of ACCE,” said Nokes. “The organization has tremendous momentum as we enter our 100th year. I look forward to continuing the energy as we help advance the value that business brings to growing strong communities across the country."
As president & CEO of the Bellevue Chamber of Commerce, Nokes leads an organization representing 1,100 member businesses. And while chamber work is Nokes’ passion (she has worked for three chambers of commerce), she has also managed the Seattle Executive Association, led the Economic Development and Strategic Planning Department for the City of Renton, Wash., and served as the general manager for a sole-proprietor business.
Nokes is heavily involved in regional business and policy issues. She was a founding participant in developing an economic strategy for the region, and serves on the Puget Sound Regional Council Economic Development Board. Active in the chamber profession, she serves on the U.S. Chamber Committee of 100, and is a past board member of the Western Association of Chamber Executives and the Alliance for Regional Stewardship. She is also past president of the Washington State Chamber of Commerce Executives. Nokes was recognized as Washington Chamber of Commerce Executive of the Year (1996), Executive of the Year by the Western Association of Chamber Executives (2005), and was honored with ACCE’s Chairman’s Award in 2009.
Established in 1914, the American Chamber of Commerce Executives (www.acce.org) is the only national association serving the professional development needs of chamber professionals throughout the United States and Canada. Representing more than 7,000 individuals, ACCE enhances the knowledge, leadership skills, and management effectiveness of chamber executives and their staff through education, benefits programs, trend analysis, benchmarking, and network development. ACCE supports and develops chamber professionals to lead businesses and their communities.
