The American Chamber of Commerce Executives (ACCE) is pleased to announce that the Greater Des Moines Partnership was recently recognized with the 2013 Organizational Champion Award for the strategic plan, Capital Crossroads: A Vision for Greater Des Moines and Central Iowa.
The award was presented to Jay Byers, CCE, chief executive officer of the Greater Des Moines Partnership, during ACCE’s Annual Awards ceremony at the association’s annual convention, July 23-26, in Oklahoma City, Okla.
“I want to commend Jay Byers and everyone involved with the Greater Des Moines Partnership for their leadership and commitment to collaboration in developing such a visionary strategy for Greater Des Moines and Central Iowa,” said Paul Matthews, IOM, executive director of the 495/MetroWest Partnership and chair of ACCE’s Regional Strategies Division. “They’ve set a national model, as other chambers of commerce and regional development organizations engage in similar dialogues to ensure their regions’ success,” continued Matthews.
In 2010, Greater Des Moines’ leaders came together to develop an aggressive five-year strategic plan to address the economic and social realities facing their community in the 21st Century. Capital Crossroads: A Vision for Greater Des Moines and Central Iowa brings a committed group of leaders together with an infusion of ideas and energy to ensure the region is growing and prospering for current and future generations. Through its expanded geographic focus, inclusive outreach, aggressive program and project development, and sustainable implementation process, Capital Crossroads: A Vision for Greater Des Moines and Central Iowa is the strategy taking the region from aspiration to accomplishment.
The Organizational Champion Award was established in 2004 to recognize regions and regional alliances for excellence and demonstrated progress in at least one of the four principles of regional stewardship: innovative economy, livable communities, social inclusion, and a collaborative style of governance. Award winners exemplify regional cooperation efforts that have increased regional capacity, achieved tangible results and shown the potential for sustainability.
