Economic Mobility in Rural Communities
Helping rural, low-income learners gain the right skills for long-term success is a fundamental component of creating equitable economic growth. Our economy is changing rapidly, and if we do not support workers and employers in adapting to the new realities of work, we risk leaving the most vulnerable communities behind. This is especially true for rural communities where there are already significant disparities in postsecondary attainment. The ACCE Foundation, with funding from Ascendium Education Philanthropy, created the Economic Mobility for Rural Workers Cohort to support chambers as they address these challenges.
Establishing One-Stops
One-Stop centers and navigator programs are useful strategies for providing job seekers easy access to a wide range and resource, services and support. Placing skills training and career coaching alongside services like technology access and transportation and child care assistance can help eliminate barriers and provide low-income, rural learners access to the resources they need to gain access to well-paying, high-demand jobs.
