Background

Finding skilled talent is the number one issue facing employers today. While A.I. and technological advancements have helped businesses achieve efficiencies, relatively few jobs can be fully automated, and the quality of talent at a company still matters.

Employers are increasingly concerned about the “soft skills” gaps in their current and potential workforce. According to a study by Deloitte Insights, “92% of companies report that human capabilities or soft skills matter as much or more than hard skills in today’s business world.”[1]

Many employers express a willingness to teach technical skills through on-the-job training, but there is less certainty on how to improve the soft skills of new and existing employees. With such demand for these skills, and clear gaps in training to build them, chambers have an opportunity to provide solutions to member businesses.

The Solution

To help chambers support local businesses in addressing their talent needs, ACCE is launching the Talent Academy, which provides a suite of on-demand learning to help employees master critical soft skills. Modules include:

  • Communication
  • Problem Solving
  • Time Management
  • Customer Service

The Talent Academy has been developed in partnership with a leading learning & development company named Pravi, whose experts and products help optimize human performance at work.

Our work with Pravi will enable companies in your community to improve the performance of their team members by receiving exclusive insights, learnings, and content from leaders at some of the world’s leading universities and most innovative executives.  Practical knowledge will be delivered that have an immediate impact on improving the soft skills of employees – and the performance of businesses. Modules will include resources to help managers reinforce the skills and approaches emphasized during this learning to ensure ongoing impact.

ACCE and Pravi are working with a small group of pilot communities to develop, test and refine the Talent Academy content and delivery approach. Thank you to the Dayton Regional Chamber, the Greater Boston Chamber and the Myrtle Beach Area Chamber for their contributions to this effort.

Benefits to Chambers

Chambers will be able to market this learning to member businesses. Chambers will benefit in a variety of ways, including:

  • Building credibility with member businesses by positioning the chamber as a problem-solver and innovator
  • Improving the quality of talent in the region by equipping people with in-demand skills
  • Generating non-dues revenue (chambers that promote this training will receive a portion of the revenue)

There are no up-front costs to offering the Talent Academy in your community. ACCE will provide a marketing toolkit and collateral that can be customized to each chamber’s brand.
