2013 Hub City BBQ Cook-Off: Budget - Lubbock Chamber of Commerce

SYNOPSIS:

Two thousand thirteen saw history in the making as the annual Hub City BBQ Cook-off became the Lubbock Chamber of Commerce’s biggest non-dues revenue event, surpassing the annual Business Expo. In its 12th year, the BBQ continued to grow and has increased by over 30 percent in the last three years. Not only is the BBQ getting bigger crowds, but the participation has increased as well.

In 2013, the BBQ included 115 cooking teams versus 98 in 2012, a 10 percent increase in sponsorship revenue, a 15 percent increase in the number of sponsors. The BBQ expanded its footprint by 1 ½ city blocks and sold out of space. More than 7,000 attendees enjoyed great food, fun and music from No Justice, the Kyle Bennett Band and Mariachi Carino.

One of the chief reasons for this was the Chamber’s 2013 marketing and advertising plan for the BBQ which included: in-kind commercials on KCBD News Channel 11, Suddenlink Cable, seven radio stations and the Stars and Stripes Drive-In, social media (Facebook page, Twitter, Pinterest), website, billboards and newspaper advertisements. The Chamber also had earned media which consisted of interviews with television stations and the local newspaper. The Chamber produced marketing materials that included: banners, posters, flyers along with promotional items of notepads, pens, aprons, oven mitts, t-shirts and caps. The Chamber also had a booth at its Business Expo in May to promote the September BBQ.
