Over the last year the O’Fallon Chamber focused more effort on educating members about what the chamber can do for them and what they can do for their chamber. We do not have a tourism or economic development department, so we rely on member dues and fundraising for income. As we spoke to members, we realized that most of them didn’t know about all of the sponsor and marketing opportunities we had, or how affordable they were. In the past we’ve used various flyers to promote different sponsorships, but it became clear that we needed something more comprehensive to inform and motivate our members.

Over the last year the O’Fallon Chamber focused more effort on educating members about what the chamber can do for them and what they can do for their chamber. We do not have a tourism or economic development department, so we rely on member dues and fundraising for income. As we spoke to members, we realized that most of them didn’t know about all of the sponsor and marketing opportunities we had, or how affordable they were. In the past we’ve used various flyers to promote different sponsorships, but it became clear that we needed something more comprehensive to inform and motivate our members.

We created the 2015 Sponsor & Partner Opportunities packet, which simplified the process of identifying events and sponsorship opportunities, and explained the different levels of investment that would provide partnership recognition. By listing each event and descriptions of what sponsors would receive, it has made it easier for chamber staff to make presentations and close deals. As a staff of three with nearly 600 members, there is a lot of job crossover. This piece helps all of us give accurate and consistent information to our members, and do a better sales job.

By re-engineering our communications about sponsorship opportunities, we’ve already secured 30% more sponsorship dollars than we did at this time last year, which has freed up more staff time for planning and execution of events, which in turn has resulted in sponsors who are more pleased with their investments. Additionally, we’ve seen an overall increase in member understanding of how much the chamber actually has going on every year.
