Hello from the Chamber Side Video - Bowling Green Area Chamber of Commerce

2016 ACE: Award of Excellence

At the Bowling Green Area Chamber of Commerce, we understand the necessity of leveraging social media to reach our strategic goals, which is why on an icy, bitter day in December, we turned up the heat and made Chamber social media history. In an effort to boost partnership sales and drive up revenue, our creative team produced a parody of pop phenomenon Adele's "Hello," imploring South Central Kentucky's business community to join the Chamber. The video was certainly a group effort, but Partnership Sales Representative Ashlee Wilson was the star of the spoof. "Hello from the Chamber side, I must have called a thousand times," Wilson proclaims.

Synopsis:

At the Bowling Green Area Chamber of Commerce, we understand the necessity of leveraging social media to reach our strategic goals, which is why on an icy, bitter day in December, we turned up the heat and made Chamber social media history.

In an effort to boost partnership sales and drive up revenue, our creative team produced a parody of pop phenomenon Adele’s “Hello,” imploring South Central Kentucky’s business community to join the Chamber. The video was certainly a group effort, but Partnership Sales Representative Ashlee Wilson was the star of the spoof. “Hello from the Chamber side, I must have called a thousand times,” Wilson proclaims.

The video ultimately reached 41,327 people and gained 17,000 views – garnering 400 likes, 296 shares and 95 comments. This type of engagement was unprecedented. Within minutes of us posting the hit, the buzz began. We received contact from businesses in our surrounding counties that wanted to know more about the Chamber. These were businesses we wouldn't have determined as prospects otherwise. The video opened doors to communicate with potential partners in our pipeline. Our specific purpose was achieved, but additionally there was an unexpected benefit: Chamber partners joined in affirming their pride as a partner by posting and sharing the video, which proved to be a great retention tool as well, a door opener on phone calls and visits. In fact, one partner asked a team member who was calling for a sponsorship request to sing “Hello, it’s me … I've come to offer you ..." Great way to break the ice. Sponsorship sold.

The video is do-it-yourself at its finest, as we wrote our own lyrics, pre-recorded the audio with a cellphone, and used another cellphone to record the visuals. We then used editing software to merge and edit the material.

We even shared the video on the ACCE Facebook page and received national recognition and praise from chambers across the nation, many asking if they could share the video on their own pages or even recreate a similar piece. We were thrilled to see the video posted in ACCE’s Chamberpedia recruitment section. For our Chamber to have the talent, resources and drive to set such a standard in the Chamber industry not only reminds us that our passion for the business community pays off, but it incentivizes us to propel toward an even stronger future in communications.
