Video Ad for Chamber Golf Tournament - Eden Prairie Chamber of Commerce

2014 ACE: Award of Excellence

Over the last year we have started to incorporate video advertising into our marketing plan. Our June 2013 Golf Tournament was late in filling up due to a snow storm in May! We began our conversations about the production of this video back in November, as we wanted to start advertising as soon as possible not knowing how long winter would drag on this year. Our goal for the video was to market the 2014 Chamber Golf Tournament in a fun and exciting way, while also using the snow and "polar vortex" to our advantage.

SYNOPSIS:

Over the last year we have started to incorporate video advertising into our marketing plan. Our June 2013 Golf Tournament was late in filling up due to a snow storm in May! We began our conversations about the production of this video back in November, as we wanted to start advertising as soon as possible not knowing how long winter would drag on this year. Our goal for the video was to market the 2014 Chamber Golf Tournament in a fun and exciting way, while also using the snow and "polar vortex" to our advantage. Most Minnesotans are used to cold temperatures in the Winter, but this Winter was extreme. We had 50 days of below zero temperatures and more snow than average. We thought "Why not?" use the snow to our benefit in promoting the golf event earlier by producing a fun and effective video of our members golfing in the snow while our Chamber President promotes the June 2nd Golf Tournament. He claims "it's too cold to golf now, but it will be amazing weather in June for the Chambers Golf Tournament." We have learned to make the best of any situation and when Minnesota gives you snow and freezing temperatures, use it to make effective promotional videos that get members thinking about future events! We had over 110 views in the first business day alone and we already have received 4 sponsorships from the video including the highest sponsorship level that we offer giving us $6,000 from the video and a total revenue currently of $10,000. We have promoted the video on social media including Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn and also in our email advertising blasts. We plan to use this video until our event is filled. We project our tournament to be filled up much sooner this year with the help of this video. We plan to continue the use of promotional videos for future events. This was a very low-budget video production. With the time volunteered by the "actors" and "crew" all we spent on the video was $40 for the editing system. Our entry deserves the 2014 Award for Communication Excellence because we believe that our outstanding communication efforts with this video will set a record for the Chamber Golf Tournament and was a unique way to promote the event. We are always looking for new and fresh forms of communication, which is exactly what we did with this video. Thank you for your consideration and please do not hesitate to contact me with any further questions.
