Onward: Remembering Mick Fleming

ACCE News / December 2, 2024

The chamber industry lost a champion last week. Former ACCE President & CEO Mick Fleming passed away on November 26.

Mick led ACCE from 2001 to 2017. His leadership and strategic thinking helped to transform our association and the industry we serve. During his time leading ACCE, he helped turn around its membership decline, strengthen its financial position and redefine its purpose. Projects like the Horizon Initiative and his thought leadership on corporate civic engagement have had a lasting impact on the chamber profession.

When he retired, we ran a tribute interview in Chamber Executive magazine, looking back at his career in his own words.

A native of the Buffalo area and a graduate of Cornell University, Mick’s diverse career included teaching, coaching, publishing, communications, management, marketing and lobbying positions.

Prior to joining ACCE, he served as chief executive of the Manufacturers Association of Central New York – an organization representing companies and facilities in nine counties of Upstate New York.  Previously, he spent 15 years in senior management positions with the Business Council of New York State.  In his early career, he was a teacher, football coach and publisher of weekly newspapers.

There will be a memorial gathering for Mick on Friday, December 6 at 4:30 pm at The Brambleton Community Center, 42645 Regal Wood Dr., Brambleton, VA 20148.
